Well it happened. Santa brought an Easy Bake Oven this past Christmas. Yep….an Easy Bake Oven. I had an Easy Bake Oven growing up as a kid and I’ll admit it…I LOVED it!
But now, for some reason, I look at them a little differently with Mom eyes! Maybe it’s the fact that now I understand that this little oven uses a light bulb to cook food. Maybe it’s the fact that you can no long see the cooking “magic” inside the oven because they did away with the little window on the front. Maybe it’s those less than palette-pleasing pre-packaged mixes. To be honest, maybe it’s a little of all three.
But it was Christmas time and my daughter had been asking and asking for this little oven – so on the Christmas list it went! She was super excited Christmas morning to see her little oven under the Christmas tree.
How could Santa say “No” to this face?
The oven does come with a chocolate chip cookie mix but I knew that would be gone the day after Christmas and leave my daughter wanting more. After looking around at all of the Easy Bake Oven mixes, I quickly realized how expensive it is to buy the refill packs. The Easy Bake Oven refills sold in stores cost on about$7 and typically include two baking mixes. That comes out to $3.50 for each mix! Pretty steep.
After poking around online, I found that there were a lot of options for us to make our own mixes. So much more affordable and the best part…they actually taste good!
One of the best things Santa brought to go along with the new Easy Bake Oven was a little oven cookbook. Page after page filled with easy to make recipes using an Easy Bake Oven.
After making this DIY Easy Bake Oven Cookie Recipe,
you’ll NEVER buy the store-bought mixes again!
One of our favorites is a DIY Easy Bake Oven Instant Oatmeal Cookie Recipe using chocolate chips. The recipe uses ingredients likely found in any pantry and the directions are easy enough for a child to follow. I did make a few adjustments to the recipe which you will see below. I added a bit more chocolate and reduced the amount of sugar.
After mixing all the ingredients, all you do is drop about 1 teaspoon of mix on the baking pan and then lightly pressed each cookie with a fingertip. {**Helpful tip** The mix is a bit sticky so wet your finger with a little water before pressing on the cookies.}
Don’t forget to spray the pan with a little cooking spray. Then carefully slide the pan into the oven. Be sure to remind your child that the outside of the oven does get hot to the touch, so be sure to use the provided spatula/pusher that comes with their oven.
After about 10 minutes the cookies were done and they smelled heavenly. Perfect with a little glass of milk!

I love this idea for my granddaughters.
But the photos show 3 Tb flour and the next photo shows 2 Tb flour. The recipe totally omits the flour altogether.

Thank you Carol!! Everything has been updated. The recipe calls for 3 Tablespoons of flour. Sorry about that and thanks so much for reaching out!
