This cute little chick egg carton craft is the perfect springtime activity for kids. These chicks are really easy to make and end up looking super cute! If you have little ones at home, this craft definitely requires some grownup hands, but it’s a ton of fun and very easy to create.
We’ve had quite a bit of rain around here lately, so finding indoor activities have been high on our list. And at the #1 spot…crafts! We actually keep a huge box of recycled materials in the garage for that very reason. We happened to have a few empty egg cartons that were just screaming to be turned into something adorable. Since Easter is right around the corner, we decided on transforming those egg cartons into some adorable little chicks.
All you need is:
– an empty egg carton
– acrylic paint
– googly eyes
– construction paper
-pipe cleaners
– glue*
*I used Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue { ❤ }, but depending on the material of your egg cartons and how evenly you make your cuts, you may need to use a glue gun.
Start by cutting out the cups of the egg carton. Be sure to trim the edges as flat and uniform as possible. Next, it’s time to glue the two cups together. Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue worked great for us but you may find that you need to use a glue gun depending on how evenly you were able to cut the edge of the cups. Once you have the glue applied, hold the two cups together between your thumb and index finger, giving the glue a few seconds to set.
After the glue has completely dried, you are ready to paint the egg carton cups. I found that two coats of paint look best. The painting can get messy, so I like cover an area of our table with some cardboard or even some Glad Press and Cling so that the painting stays contained. Leave the painted egg carton cups to dry for a couple of hours to overnight.
Once everything is completely dry, you can glue on the googly eyes. To make the hair, simply cut a piece of pipe cleaner to the length of your choice. Mine were about 1-1/2″. Bend them into a “V” shape, leaving one side slightly longer than the other. Curl one end of each piece and then poke it into the top of each little chick. Use a pen tip to pop the hole and then insert the hair.
For the feet, cut out a heart shape and glue the pointed tip to the bottom of the chick.
And for the beak, take a small square piece of orange construction paper, fold it in half to make a triangle, and then glue it just below the googly eyes. There you have it – an adorable little chick egg carton craft!
This is an easy craft for kids that ends up looking super cute. My daughter had a great time making these sweet little chicks and I know you and your kids will too!
